Dynasty Typewriter presents a historic live musical performance of the cult classic HARRY NILSSON’S THE POINT! Narrated by TIM HEIDECKER (Tim & Eric)
Join us on Oct 12 as Musician Kiefo Nilsson, son of Harry Nilsson, leads a full musical ensemble for their first ever Los Angeles performance of the hugely influential concept album and children’s cartoon. The first ever performance of its kind in Los Angeles, the album will be performed in its entirety by a band, and features narration by Tim Heidecker. Following The Point! the ensemble will perform a career-spanning set of Nilsson songs.
Harry Nilsson’s album The Point! is a musical fable about a boy named Oblio, the sole round-headed person in a land where everything and everyone must have a point (literally). It tells a story of his exclusion and exile from his home and of lessons he learns from his journey through The Pointless Forest. The album was released in 1971, accompanied by an animated movie directed by Academy Award winning cartoonist Fred Wolf.
Harry Nilsson is widely considered one of the greatest American songwriters of the 20th century. Crucial in developing the LA studio sound, his work provided a vital link between the baroque psychedelic pop sound of the late 60s and the more personal singer-songwriter style of the early 70s. As the son of Harry Nilsson, Kiefo works to preserve his father’s legacy through live performance.
Kiefo leads a band featuring multi-instrumentalist Bobby Halvorson, who has previously worked with composers like Van Dyke Parks. The duo is supported by members of Brother Sister, an LA-based progressive rock act who take influence from Queen, ELO, and The Beach Boys. The ensemble is rounded out by Tim Heidecker, of the comedy duo Tim and Eric, who will narrate the piece—a role previously fulfilled by Dustin Hoffman and Ringo Starr.
The Point! performance takes place at Dynasty Typewriter (2511 Wilshire Blvd) on October 12 at 8:00PM. Tickets are limited and available at www.dynastytypewriter.com
