Photo Recap: Michael Ausiello’s Beverly Hills

Back in the '80s, when Michael Ausiello was a closeted gay teen living in small-town New Jersey, he penned 517 episodes of a daytime soap opera titled "Beverly Hills." Miraculously, he saved every handwritten script. Now, four decades later, some of the biggest names in comedy came together to perform a 60-minute reading of a self-contained story arc that found six of "Beverly Hills'" most popular characters traveling overseas for a life-or-death adventure. Although some of Teenage Michael’s atrocious spelling was cleaned up for this theatrical experience, the scenes were performed exactly as they were written nearly 40 years ago— for better or worse. Thanks to all the amazing cast who came together to make this event happen: Caitlin Reilly, Tony Hale, Dulé Hill, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Melissa Fumero, Mitch Silpa, Patrick Gallagher, Sarah Ramos, Tony Rodrigues, Tristan Michael Brown. Additional thanks to Patrick Cotnoir for co-producing the event and Tom DeTrinis for directing.

"Dynasty Tonight!" is a semi-weekly live show featuring performances from outstanding stand-up comics, musical acts, and variety acts. Often, very famous people make surprise appearances! We select performers we genuinely love, both as artists and as individuals, because that's what you deserve. This edition featured Arden Myrin (Insatiable), Jena Friedman (Borat 2), Sandy Honig (Three Busy Debras), and Lizzy Cooperman (TimeOut LA’s Comedians to Watch). Plus, the event includes hosts, music from the Dy-Nasties, and more.

25 years ago, visionary filmmaker George Lucas showed us an astonishing world of podracing, Midichlorians, and battle droids, and we celebrated! On May 19th at Dynasty Typewriter, the guys behind Star Wars Minute and The George Lucas Talk Show were proud to present a LIVE reading of the original Phantom Menace screenplay, with a wizard cast including some of the galaxy’s hottest stars (…and some surprises?!).

The event was hosted by Pete The Retailer, Alex Robinson, and Patrick Cotnoir, featuring special guests Tawny Newsome, Haley Joel Osment, Diana Lee Inosanto, Laraine Newman, Eric Bauza, Vic Michaelis, Tony Hale, Krystina Arielle, Bobby Moynihan, Corin Wells, Mark McConville, Hal Lublin, Matt Gourley, and James Bladon. Musical accompaniment was provided by Chrysanthe Tan.

View this email in your browser Hey sweet Darlings,  Our hearts and prayers are with you, hoping no one got you toooo badly on the day of wickedness and dark magic that is April Fools day. We survived mostly unscathed, as we have a very strict NO TRICKS policy around the theater, but we know not everyone can be so lucky. Just the tangential fooling energy effected us, so we can’t imagine how it would be to live with a person who puts soap on your toothbrush and cling wrap on a toilet. April Fools day: It’s NOT ok.   On April Fools Eve (whilst the Devil was preparing his tote of trickery) we had the ABSOLUTE PLEASURE of watching JENNY SLATE put on one of our favorite shows ever. Humanity, absurdity, warmth, sensitivity, and also some really gross yucky stuff. A perfect cocktail.  Unfortunately she had to cancel last night’s show, but we’re hard at work trying to reschedule it. If you have an opportunity to see her anywhere, take it. Saturday’s Dynasty Tonight! was yet another dreamy one, the band keeps getting better and better (we’ve added some horns! View this email in your browser Hiiii Darlings,  We had such a great weekend. OMGorsh. We celebrated our QUINQUENNIAL (5 Year Anniversary!) with a Quelebration for the ages. PATTON OSWALT! 12 piece band! HANNAH EINBINDER! 2 BRENTS! (FORRESTER AND WEINBACH) and a stellar STELLING (Beautiful BETH!) VanJam kicked off the show with a… KEYNOTE! That could go either way (and we’ve seen both sides now…) but Saturday it went GREAT. So much support and positivity, so much magic and goodness. It was one of our favorite nights ever, and the fine hardworking bakers at Costco OUTDID THEMSELVES on our 2 stunning sheet cakes. Family, friends, and surprise sweeties came out of the woodworks and it was so special. Balloons galore. Quinquennial shirts galore. Goodness galore. 5 years down, 64 to go! Didn’t get to come to the party and support/celebrate?
